Free child care is available throughout the State for families experiencing homelessness. Through the Homeless Grace Period program, eligible families can receive up to four months of licensed child care at no cost to them. Information is attached in English, Spanish, and Somali. Please share the flyer with any family that needs help and/or your community partners to help us spread the word. Feel free to reach out if you would like more, and we will mail them to you.
The Homeless Grace Period is part of the Working Connections Child Care subsidy. Skilled Navigators at the Child Care Aware of Washington Family Center help families find out if they are eligible for the program, access the subsidy system, find licensed child care providers, and connect families with other resources. Parents and guardians can reach the Family Call Center directly at 1 (800) 446-1114.
Families may be eligible if they:
- Live temporarily with family or friends
- Do not have a home
- Live in a shelter, car or park
- Live in transitional housing
- Live in Domestic Violence program housing
- Are income eligible
- Other temporary situations could also qualify
