Burlington-Edison School District has opened enrollment for our 4th cohort of Opportunity Kindergarten students. Opportunity K is an early entry to kindergarten intervention program designed for students who may need additional support prior to enrolling in Kindergarten next fall. If you are aware of a child residing in the Burlington-Edison district who is unable to attend preschool or an early learning program, who may need some additional support, please share the attached documents with the family.
Specifically, Opportunity K is an intervention program for students who:
• Would typically enter kindergarten next year
• Are not currently attending an early childhood program (e.g. Head Start, or other private/public programs)
• Children who are in need of an extended kindergarten experience (early entry), to prepare them for the full-year kindergarten program starting next year
• Keep in mind; students who enroll in Opportunity K are attending kindergarten. Just like all kindergarten classrooms, there is no cost. For those living in district, we provide transportation just like any other kindergarten student. The class-size is small (15 students with a teacher and full time IA).
Attached are the informational fliers and the short application. Thank you for your help in finding our newest cadre of Opportunity K students!
